We love avocodos (so much we made an enamel pin!), but did you know that we probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy avocados today if it hadn’t been for (now extinct) megafauna and their poop?!
Without mammals like the giant ground sloth, that were large enough to eat avocados whole, and then travelled long distances (and pooped the avocado seed out when they got there), the fruit would have simply fallen to the ground, rot where it lay, and had to compete with the parent tree for light and growth.
And that’s the goal of all botanical fruits, really: survival and growth via seed dispersal.
